Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average temperature in Wisconsin in March?

Highs around 40F and lows in the 20's.  Sometimes it can be warmer, but we can only promise the warmth of our hospitality!

Who's Bucky?

Bucky is a badger and our mascot.  He’s gone through quite a bit of change over the years but just like the real thing, Bucky's fierce and tenacious.  Keep your eyes peeled and you might see him somewhere.

How do I get to the Monona Terrace?

Check the bus schedule, buses will be running from major conference hotels to the Monona Terrace.

I signed up for a wet lab/day trip and I am wondering where it is?

The locations of wet labs and daytrips will be on the website. Day trips will pick up at Monona Terrace. Please arrive 45 minutes ahead of departure time for your day trip to allow your place to be tallied and for people on the waiting list to have a fair chance.

For wet labs, go to the Monona Terrace from your hotel and then get on the wet lab bus route that will stop at all the major wet lab locations. On the wet labs page and in the survival guide you will find out which stop you need to be at.

I'm here on Wednesday night, what can I do?

Thanks for coming in early to the conference. There's plenty to do around the capitol and on State Street. Check out the map and visit the Isthmus website to see what is going on this week.

Hey, it mentions animals in these wet labs. Is that ethical?

Live animal wet labs must all be subject to research animal resource council protocols and reviewed by that committee.  The rules pertaining to animal use on University of Wisconsin campus are VERY stringent. Rest assured that every ethical consideration is being taken whenever animals are involved in this conference.

I'm interested in doing an externship/internship at Wisconsin and I'd like to talk to someone while I'm in town. What should I do?

Get in touch with the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association through their website, and they should be able to put you in contact with some helpful folks.

I don't really like drinking and it says Friday night is a pub crawl, what should I do?

Pub crawl is a somewhat loose term. There are lots of cool ethnic dining options on State Street, the Orpheum Theatre, the Overture Center for the Arts, a live comedy club, and several museums. Take in a night on the town.

Where is the Memorial Union? I thought everything was at the Monona Terrace?

The Memorial Union is at the heart of the UW Campus. Check out the Union website and you’ll find it more easily. We'll have buses running from the major conference hotels to the Memorial Union.

Where do I get free food?

There are dinners on Thursday and Saturday and boxed lunched on Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, State Street is an excellent venue that we suggest trying at least once while you are here in Madison.

I'm a delegate, what do I get to do for fun?

Get in touch with the planning staff personally. We'll see what we can suggest. We want delegates to get something out of the symposium too!
