Wisconsin State Capitol
The Capitol was built between 1907 and 1917 by George Post & Sons. The exquisite architecture includes a dome that rises over 200 feet and four wings, giving the capital a wagon wheel appearance from the sky. On the inside is a collection of fine arts, glass mosaics, and hand carved furniture in all four wings.

State Street
State Street is a popular hangout for University of Wisconsin students, Badger fans, and Madison residents to enjoy some of Madison’s finest specialty shops, cafes, restaurants, and specialty theatres. Madison is actually known for more restaurants per person than any other city in the nation, and many of those restaurants are on State Street!
Museum Mile
The Chazen Museum of Art, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Wisconsin Veterans Museum, Wisconsin Historical Museum, Madison’s Children’s Museum, and the UW Geology Museum are all within a short walking distance.
Arboretum and Gardens
University of Wisconsin’s Arboretum is 1260 acres surround the southern brim of Lake Wingra. The arboretum has miles of trails that wind through some of the oldest restored ecological communities. For more outdoor sites, Olbrich Botanical Gardens and Allen Centennial Gardens are nearby and contain exquisite landscaping and botanicals.
Performing Arts
In 1928, the first performing arts theatre opened on State Street. Today, the theatre is known as the Overture Center, and a broad spectrum of elegant performing arts programs are viewable on any given day.

Suburban Shopping
Madison has two major malls, West Towne and East Towne, located on their respective sides of town with an extensive list of stores for your shopping pleasure. In addition there are smaller shopping centers located in Madison that have their own selection of stores; examples are Hilldale Mall and Westgate Mall.
Lake Mendota and Lake Monona
Madison is on an isthmus in between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. The advantage of the two lakes is several biking trails (including Lake Mendota’s Howard Temin’s Memorial Trail) and access to any water sport one has a desire to indulge in.
